The Fundamental Delay-Response Equation
Total Barrier Delay Time > Detection Time + Assessment Time + Response Force Transit Time
If physical barriers delay an intruder for 3 minutes, but security response transit time takes 7 minutes, the perimeter defense has failed regardless of camera quality.

Critical Lighting Design Criteria
- Vertical Illuminance: While horizontal illuminance measures light falling on the ground, vertical illuminance (measured at 5 feet above the ground) determines whether facial features can be distinguished by witnesses and camera sensors.
- Glare Control: Luminaires must be positioned and shielded to direct light away from security guards and CCTV cameras, projecting glare toward approaching intruders.
- Color Rendering Index (CRI): Lighting should maintain a CRI of 70 or higher (preferably LED 4000K–5000K) to ensure accurate color rendering of intruder clothing, skin tone, and vehicle color on CCTV recordings.
